I read so much and so often that I almost never feel a true sense of accomplishment when finishing a book, but this book has been on my life list since at least the early 1990s, so I'm smugly pleased. Now, how can I review it on goodreads?

Engrossing, but a little unsatisfying with Anna as the central character. She's just so... teenage. She's adult in that she's able to generate elaborate (and often awful) readings of others' behavior, but childish in that she indulges the very worst of her imagination most of the time. And precisely as self-absorbed as a teenager.
