Like many other runners, I was drawn to Born to Run because it captured the tale of the fascinating Tarahumara Indians—a community of cultural ultramarathon runners in Mexico. This book is much more than a book about running, though.

I really enjoyed this one - and I'm not a runner. It inspired me to be more active, and I thought all the sidebars about barefoot running and other running injuries were very interesting. I wish I could go back and read this one again for the first time.

I don't know why more people don't read narrative nonfiction. This book is packed with all the page turning elements of a good book: a sympathetic narrator, explorations of a unique and not well known culture (Tarahumara), rich descriptions of endurance and human strength, almost unbelievable characters, layman's science and explanations of anatomy and evolution, and a thrilling climax of a race through Mexico's colorful Copper Canyons. This was excellent - great, suspenseful storyline interspersed with lessons in science, history and anthropology. Interesting, intriguing, informative, inspiring, it really rang true for me. I remember the feeling as I finished my first marathon that I was made to run, that I had finally found what my body was meant to do. I felt so good I could have kept on running.
