This book counts towards the Reading Women 2019 Challenge task #6: A multi-generational family saga.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars.

I wanted to like this more. Its a National Book Award winner for goodness sake and came highly recommended. Pretty fantastic writing, but dark and heavy material. Maybe I need to be in the right mood for it, but it just made me feel depressed.

This was beautifully written, but I’m not sure how I feel at the end of it all.
