Oh, yes, the prose is lovely, as sparkling and pointed as the champagne everyone's always drinking at Gatsby's parties, but I'd forgotten just how reprehensible the characters are, just how morally vapid and disgusting. Still, it's of its time and summery and I'm glad to have re-read it.

I was obsessed with Fitzgerald in high school; did an independent study on his novels. And this was my favorite. Re-read in college and did a paper on the color/symbolism and still loved the book. I definitely need to re-read now (along with Tender is the Night and others!)

I couldn't get jazzed up about this book in high school; I think I have limited interest in romantic love or obsession as a main plot. The descriptions of the crossroads and the flappers were more interesting.
