I carefully rationed this audiobook out because I knew it'd make me feel many feelings & that I'd be sorry when it was over. For its beauty, heart, warmth, romance & overall deep humanity, this might be my favorite read of 2015. Extra stars unavailable under GR's five-star system for Lin-Manuel Miranda's perfect narration.

Read Harder 2017: LGBTQ Author
What a delightful book this was. Ari and Dante meet at the pool one summer in high school. Dante teaches Ari how to swim and, much more slowly, how to open up and take himself a little less seriously. When tragedy strikes, we see a portrait of a friendship that can survive a storm.
I loved Ari as a character. I've never met a high schooler who talks as little as he does and it was fascinating to watch the way he talked to himself in his head.

I loved this book. I loved the characters, the depiction of friendship and family and growing up. I loved the examination of how things unsaid can hurt as much or more as things that are said. I thought it was beautifully written and I just want to know everyone in this book. Really excellent.

This definitely lived up to the hype. And an excellent audiobook narrated by Lin-Manuel Miranda. What an amazing collection of wonderful characters. Great protagonists, great parents, great supporting friends, great dog (seriously every comment Aristotle makes about dogs is wonderful). Well-written, authentic, coming-of-age story. This is a story of love, romantic love, yes, but also friendship, and wonderful familial bonds. It pulls you in and doesn't let go, until you get to the perfectly pace

Great characters, EXCELLENT ending. Also, Lin-Manuel Miranda is an A+ narrator. Will review on the blog.

Perfect. I can't help but think of Michael Sam and his bravery, and I wonder if he has ever known a Dante of his own.
