Apparently I read this one 10 years ago and hated it? But I have no recollection of either, so I'll chalk it up to reading it at the wrong time.

What a fun book! It's an intricately woven story incorporating fairy tales, a boy's imagination and fears, and his love of books, illustrating that which gets lost (and found) when children grow up. I love the author's description of how stories beg us to give them life in our imaginations through reading and retelling. I listened to this via my library's downloadable library - I loved the guy's accent, esp. when he did the Snow White voice. The story was a little formulaic, as all fairy tales are, but I really enjoyed it. It was a great break from my usual chick-lit type stuff.

I had previously picked this book up and discarded it after a couple of pages, but I'm really glad I tried again! I loved the twisted fairy tales, a great read.

Very creepy, very dark. I like books that explore myths and fairy tales, but this one didn't end up having a good lesson for me, and I found the imagery too disturbing for bedtime reading.

Love love love love love. Twisted fairy tale mashup! Brilliant characters! Good and evil! I found nothing not to like about this, and much to speed and then to break my heart.
