I never re-read books, but I know I will revisit this book--I love the characters and message so much. I read and listened to the masterful narration of Allan Corduner.
Conceptually a great YA book, but in actual experience, I didn't find it as compelling as I'd hoped. The book is narrated by Death, who we learn becomes occasionally infatuated with some certain human's story - in this case, that of the Book Thief, young Liesel Meminger, who has moved in with foster parents and is adjusting to life in a city near Munich in the thick of World War II. I just finished rereading this book with the book club I started at school, and for the third time it has me tears. I'm afraid to read other books by Zusak, because I'm afraid that they won't be as powerful.

Quite possibly the best fiction book I have ever read that was set during World War 2.
I will echo that this is neither an easy read nor a quick one. But quite simply this book has characters that come to life from the page. No one is all good nor all bad.

It's hard to say why this book is so wonderful. I'd like to be more like Hans Hubermann. And Liesel too. This book made me cry, and cry out, more than once. It's just so beautiful and sad.

The book was incredibly descriptive, uniquely written and overall a book in which you wanted to emotionally invest. Everyone should read it!

So very beautiful...
A devastatingly beautiful book.
I got through about 10 pages of this before I put it down. I know people seem to (almost) universally love it, but the style of writing was really jarring and unpleasant for me.
