I had bought the book a number of years ago and I can't recall what the circumstances behind the purchase, but I suppose a large part of it was the reviews I had read on various blogs and that was probably a huge influence on my purchase. A lot of my friends on goodreads have read this book and are split pretty evenly between loving and hating it. Therefore I went into this expecting I would not have a lukewarm reaction and that maybe it was just that kind of book. Maybe it was my mood at the time or extreme tiredness, but lukewarm it was. I was sold on this book as soon as I realized who the narrator was, very inventive. And his view on the Holocaust from up above in the context of his vast experience was very moving. I enjoyed slowly finding out why the main character was called the Book Thief.
One of the best books I have read..
