What Members Thought
In 1962, Skeeter graduates (still single) from Ole Miss and wants to be a writer. Her friends are married with black maids raising their children. Skeeter's own childhood maid is gone without a trace and she decided to write about what it's like to be a colored woman working for a white family and is eventually able to enlist the help of the local maids. The story is told from the perspective of Skeeter and two other black maids, switching voices every few chapters.
