Like all of Neil Gaiman's books, this book was enchanting. After being orphaned in a triple murder, Bod Owens is adopted by the dead of a graveyard, where he then grows up. The Graveyard Book follows him as he grows up in this most unusual way, through his adventures across the different sections of the graveyard - running from ghouls, befriending a witch, and growing up while all his childhood ghost friends stay the same age - and out into the world, where he knows he isn't supposed to go, beca ...more

This was generally creepy and cool. It felt a bit segmented at times - like parts of it could stand on their own (at least one chapter was published as a short story, I know) and sometimes like there were a few different stories being told that eventually came together at the end. As usual Gaiman does a great job narrating his own book in audiobook format.

2.5 rounded up to 3. This was recommended by several friends, as I wanted to try out something by Neil Gaiman since I had never read him. I just felt lost in most of the story and felt as if it dragged on. There were barely any answers to most of the questions I had, as if they were just breezed over in afterthought. The last third of the book kept me reading til the end, but left me with many "Why's?" Not sure if I'll try anything else by Gaiman. ...more

This is a great story. I liked the multi-faceted world of the graveyard and the complicated place that Bod inhabits. The story is scary, special and touching all in one. It is a creative coming of age tale about an orphan who is adopted into unusual circumstances. His parents and guardians are characters worth getting to know.
