Hardly possible but this book seems to be even better upon re-reading it.
Well, it's going to be hard to do this review without spoilers so...
I really give this more like 4.5 stars. At the risk of angering friends, it took quite a chunk of book for me to really get into it. I found it relatively slow for quite some time, but then of course it got good, and the last 200 or so pages flew by.

The Fifth Season is the first book in a new series by N.K. Jemisin. I read, but did not love, The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, and didn't continue that series. But this got so much buzz after winning the Hugo, I decided to give her another try.

wow. Looking forward to reading all her stuff.
Wonderful world-building and compelling characters. I can’t wait to read the next title in the series, along with everything else Jemisin has written.
Just so so good. A volcanically active world where some people are born with the power to affect geology. Lots of interesting cultural tidbits and a complex society. Jemisin creates really vivid, worlds, stories and characters and fantasy fans should all read this book.
