That was definitely a mind blowing read. The book's world is constructed so carefully, confusing at the beginning but very satisfying at the end.

A rich science-fiction/fantasy (maybe just sci-fi? not sure) story set in a world where people with powers are feared and outcast but necessary to maintain human life. When a natural disaster could thrust the world into a season of hunger and despair, the orogenes can control the earth, shifting it to protect people from shakes or volcanoes.

Finally got to this one! Can't wait to read the rest of the series. Great world-building.

Truthfully, I waited until I'd read the whole series to write this review because while The Fifth Season is gorgeous on it's own, you really do need to read the full trilogy to appreciate each book. The world-building Jemisin does is just astounding. And though there are what feels like a million characters going in a million different directions, the way they weave together yet have such distinct voices keeps you from getting too turned around. Highly HIGHLY recommend this.
