To no one's surprise, Toni Morrison's use of language is beautiful. Simple, without a single wasted word she heartbreakingly tells the story of Pecola, a young black girl whose only wish is to be beautiful, a beauty she believes will come if only she had blue eyes. My reflections are too complex to voice right now, only that I feel a need to read everything Toni Morrison has written... that her insights, into black culture and human existence, are too important not too.

I totally love this book! I can't believe that you didn't enjoy it that much. Morrison does a fantastic job with creating psychologically deep characters. The structure of this book also adds to the depth of the characters, as well as mimicks the variety of ways in which society compartmentalizes individuals based on economic status, gender and race.
