What Members Thought

Massive biography of the founding father. Comprehensive and includes information not in the musical adaptation. Good narration by Scott Brick.

I learned A LOT about Alexander Hamilton, considering that all I knew before was he was on the $10 bill and helped write the constitution. After reading this, I see him as an interesting and complex man who had some relatable flaws. This biography felt a little dry at times, though, and didn’t always capture my attention...that might be because I don’t read a lot of historical biographies.

I’m not sure I’ve ever teared up at a biography before but this got me. The final moments of his life and reading his “Best of wives, Best of women” letter to Eliza is what got me. Alexander Hamilton was such a fascinating, complex, wildly intelligent and challenging person. Ron Chernow made this 36 hour audiobook compelling from start to finish.
