What Members Thought

Jenny Lawson reading her own stuff just makes it even more fun. (and there's a bonus chapter!)

4.5 stars. I alternated between laughing out loud hysterically and crying (in a good way) at her more vulnerable chapters about mental illness and learning to love and accept herself. This would be a 5 star read for me except sometimes the tangents got too, well, tangential and absurd. But it is absolutely worth the read, and I especially recommend the audiobook because she reads it.

another book I've read while having a concussion. Very funny and honest look at depression and life.

Enjoyed it at first, and appreciated the author's outlook and honesty about mental illness, but about half way through I grew weary of the style and stopped finding funny what I think was supposed to be funny. Maybe if I was reading instead of listening, it would have been different. I may come back to this in print someday... .I still want to check out Lawson's first book, which I hear is good, and will probably go to that one in print as well.

My only complaint about this book - and it's not a real complaint - is that now that I'm finished, I'll have to wait some time to read another book by Ms. Lawson.
I didn't even know she existed up until 3 weeks ago and now I've read both her books, follow her blog and feel like I have a soul sister who lives in far off Texas that I'll never meet.
But that's ok, because now I know there's one more like me around and it's wonderful :)

I had to return this to the library before I could finish it. I just kept getting distracted by other things.

A funny and insightful look at what it's like to live with mental illness.

I was expecting more out of it. Didn't get the humour.
