I'd been meaning to read Furiously Happy for quite some time now, at the recommendation of several of my friends. I started it once, but didn't get far. I just wasn't in the mood. The second time around I enjoyed it more, especially when I was able to see past the zaniness and humor to the honest discussions about mental (and physical) illness. It sounds like Jenny deals with a lot, but her long suffering husband and daughter and her equally zany friends and family are there for her. She is luck ...more

I listened to this book laughing out loud, crying, understanding, and awed by her courageous honesty.

Hysterical, heart-breaking, and inspiring. This is one of the best books about anxiety and depression I have ever read and I highly recommend it.

I LOVED THIS BOOK! How have I gone this long without Jenny Lawson on my radar? I now need to go read everything she's ever written. ...more

In places, this was funny and clever and awkward and honest and enlightening and weird and all tied together and really well done. In other places, it felt like a blog and not like a memoir. I lost track of the train for periods of time. It does live up to its subtitle--a funny book about horrible things-- bu ...more

Read this for the April meeting of my Atlanta book club (which I sadly was unable to attend). I wasn't familiar with Jenny Lawson before reading this memoir, but am very interested in her story and now follow her on Twitter as well. My favorite parts of this book were when she really tackled her mental health issues, how she deals with them (so often with humor), and what they mean for her and her family. The mock interview with her husband in the middle of the book is a perfect example of that ...more

This book is hilarious, but it's also very touching. Jenny writes of her mental illness with frank honesty. I listened to this while I was walking the dog, people must have thought I was crazy because I would laugh out loud (or better yet, snort!) frequently.

This isn't your kind of book if you don't like foul language or quirky characters.
