I got this book about two years ago and finally got to reading the book this past spring and really enjoyed it. What I really liked about the book is that while it was a fairly dense book, it was also very readable. Watched the movie Amazing Grace afterwards and it really tied into the book.

Absolutely, breathtakingly, wonderful, compelling. I will be recommending this book to every one I know. It tells a particular story about the slave trade that I wasn't aware of - how some 3,000 slaves (former and, sadly, current) were moved to Nova Scotia.
The writing is clear and crisp and Hill has created an unforgettable heroine in Aminata Diallo.

This was a powerful and deeply engaging novel—Aminata’s story drew me in quickly and never let go. Her dreams for the freedom and home stolen from her resonated with me. What else do we really want, deep in our souls, after all, but the freedom to choose our own destiny and somewhere to be truly at home, with those who truly know us.
