This novel owes a huge debt to Kafka, one readily acknowledged by both author and reviewers, but the book I kept thinking about was Margaret Atwood's The Edible Woman, another sad, twisted tale about a woman trying to control her sexuality and her appetites.

I could not get into this book. Fortunately it’s a quick read, though chapters are long. I assumed the story would be told from the woman that goes vegetarian, but it’s not. It could be an interesting take, perspectives from her family members, but I was disappointed. I do wonder how much of not liking it is due to translation. 😕

Deeply disturbing and poignant, even through odd forms of beauty (writing, imagery, and the bond/reflection in the sisters). Trigger warnings abound.

This was odd, as expected. Well written and clever but didn't blow me away.
