It's *almost* September so it's time to get my horror on. I'm so glad last year's streak involved lots of Shirley Jackson because there's a lot of Shirley going on here. To be fair, there's a lot of William Peter Blatty, Stephen King, and other horror favorites to uncover. Tremblay gleefully shares the book's influences, from Paranormal Activity to Session 9. This story is told through the eyes of Merry Barrett. Merry had a bit of a rough childhood. When she was 8, her older sister started acting strangely and dangerously, and in their quest to find a way to help her, her parents agree to not only an exorcism, but a reality show following their family at the same time. Another book that I really just wanted the author to be clear about what had happened, but instead they left it open for interpretation. I guess some people like that but I wanted the big reveal
