What a gem of a book! My twelve year old daughter lists this as one of her favorite books. In order to persuade me to read it, she started reading it aloud to me on a car ride. As she had hoped, I was hooked by the time she finished a few chapters.
The story is lovely and Saint-Exupery's ability to capture deep concepts in just a few sentences is impressive. His portraits of vanity, drunkenness and the quest for power are succinct and accurate.

Read Harder - a translation.
Picked this as a quick palette cleanser before diving into What is the What. Worked wonders! It's a delightful story and I really love the drawings.
I read bits and pieces of this in French - a million years ago in school - and enjoyed it in English this time around. It's much easier to read (my French was never very good) and the story really shines through. ...more
