Fun in the beginning, meh in the middle, fantastic in the last 100 pages or so. Would absolutely read a sequel.
A lot of reviewers have compared this to Jane Austen, and rightly so. The gently sarcastic humor and the dialogue would be right at home on a shelf next to Pride and Prejudice. And Prunella could easily be a Bennet sister... although she often reminded me more of Lydia than Eliza.

Great world-building and I definitely appreciated the diversity of the characters, but I missed the tongue-in-cheek humor that I've come to expect through other books in the genre (

Thematically, this book dealt with multiple themes that are right in my wheelhouse: racism, sexism, feminism -- all set in a magical world. However, I struggled through most of this. I don't know if it was the reading slump I've found myself in for most of the beginning of this year or the writing style, or some combination of both. I did really enjoy most of the characters throughout, and enjoyed the last 150ish pages.
