Somehow I never read this in high school. I finally decided to tackle it, and it was interesting. A little crazy and heavy-handed, but for the time that it was written, a very interesting critique on society.
this might be the saddest book i ever read. i had been putting off reading this classic, but when i saw this illustrated edition, i could not resist. steadman's work really brings out the morbidity of the book.

Even though I had seen this in play form before I read it, it's still pretty chilling. It certainly has shades of China, Russia and North Korea also. Orwell was kind of amazing in his way of predicting the future.

Just re-read this one over Thanksgiving weekend. Interesting to revisit it. As good and scary as ever.
