A group of young English schoolboys are plane-wrecked on an uninhabited tropical island towards the end of the World War. Its 2.5 actually. I'm guessing most people who like the book are the ones who've studied it in school/college. We didn't have this one. Reading it on your own can be a bit tricky. The reason why I rate it low is because the author waits for SUCH a long time to make the point. You have to wait literally till the middle of the book for anything real to happen.
