Oh man, so good. I could just read Jo Walton and Ursula K. LeGuin forever and ever. Who needs anybody else.
I think a big part of the reason that I like Jo Walton so much is that she and I have similar (seemingly disparate) interests. So she writes stuff that I would write about, maybe, if I were a writer. Or that I like to read about, anyway. Victorian novels! Dragons! Ancient Greece! Time travel! Robots! Alternate timelines! Moon bases! Fairies! Reading other science fiction books! I would not have guessed how compelled I could be by the thought experiment of Plato’s republic as managed by Apollo and Athena.

I think you need to like philosophy more than I do to really enjoy this book. I thought it was an interesting thought experiment-- Athene and Apollo and all kinds of people from throughout history try and create Plato's Just City. I thought the first part dragged a little, then I got really involved in some of the characters, then it abruptly ended. It is worth a read, especially if you know a lot more about philosophy than I do.
