As my grandmother once said about old age, this book is "not for sissies." After watching the movie, I was convinced I had to read the book - there was something about the movie that made me think there was more to the story. The book was easier to read than the movie was to watch. I guess it’s because when you read words, the images are left to your own imagination. This is my first foray into Urban Lit. Wow, I jumped right in, didn't I? If this book is any type of indicator, then Urban Lit is not for me. This is not a story for the faint of heart. If you're not accustomed to the language, some parts may be difficult to understand altogether. And the parts you DO understand, you'll wish you hadn't. I'm not saying it's a bad book, I'm just saying it was a challenge for me on many levels.

This was ok. A little difficult to read at first, but it's short. The story of course, while it's easy to dismiss it as fiction, is sadly all too real for many people so it can be a little depressing to read and feel through.

What I love about this book is the writing. And I love that the book is about a girl who is learning to write for the first time, and so begins to tell the story of her life.
