I've been meaning to read this for years, and, since my copy is a mass-market paperback I thought it would be good for travel. I enjoyed it, but I think comparisons to The Name of the Rose are too kind, in that, while Suskind did a remarkable job with the research (the passage involving the making of perfume were engrossing), and the underlying premise is incredibly inventive, the narrative was, occasionally, more like a typical slasher novel versus a "higher" form of literature (if there even i
