Very good time travel book that is perfect for readers who don't usually read in this genre. Jake Epping is a high school teacher in Maine who travels back to 1958 with the discovery of a rabbit hole in the back of the diner owned by his friend Al. Al convinces Jake to prevent the Kennedy assassination in 1963 but that plot doesn't kick in until the last third of the novel. In the first third, Jake prevents a mass murder of a family in a small insular town in Maine. He then moves to Jodi, Texas

i can't remember the last book of king's i read. "the tommyknockers"? something of that era. this was a refreshing change, at least in that he seemed interested in what he was writing about, rather than just cranking out another horror/fantasy tome, but i still felt it dragged, and the end was way too schmaltzy/rushed for all that came before it.

Don't be scared of the length of the book, this story really keeps you going. The national geographic channel just made a movie called Killing Kennedy, and it was all stuff I was reading about in this novel...it's more historical fiction than it is sci/fi. I like the idea of time travel and how much of an impact each and every one of us has on the world.
