I think I actually liked this book better than the first. I feel like Diana comes into her own a bit more - which is an interesting choice considering they've traveled back in time to Elizabethan England. Though long, the book's characters are so engaging it's impossible

I agree with some of the reviews that there are a few too many characters to keep track of in this book and I also think you should reread A Discovery of Witches right before you read the sequel or else you'll be confused(like I was). BUT, despite that I really enjoyed it even if from time to time I forgot and thought I was reading another book in Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series (seriously Matthew could be Jamie and Diana could be Claire and literally the same things would have happened). I really wanted to love this book. Everything about it felt like it was setting up to be one of my favorite books ever. Diana Bishop and Matthew de Clermont heading back in time to Elizabethan England so she can learn about her magic?? Yes, please! Unfortunately, this book did not come close to what I was expecting. Nothing happened. It felt like an exercise in "look at the research I did." All sorts of historical figures show up, but dont really do much for plot. (Queen Elizabeth had bad teeth!
