I did find it a little slow in the beginning and put it down to read other books, but then I got into it and found it hard to stop reading at night.

If Outlander and Twilight had a baby ...

This book was extremely fun to read. With just the right amount of history, science and things that go bump in the night. While I wasn't the biggest fan of Matthew's character development towards the end of the novel (imagine equal parts Jaime Fraser and Edward Cullen),it was probably historically accurate. I went into this book with high expectations and came out underwhelmed for the amount of pages I read. This would be a good one to skim. That may sound harsh, but I think I would have thought it was great if I didn't give it such a thorough reading. ...more

It was a well written, entertaining book to read; however, I am over the whole vampire/witch affair and am not sure if I will go on to read the rest of the books in the series.
