It's been quite a long time since I have loved a book as much as I loved this one. It had all of the right elements of my favorite books - a well-developed and consistent mythology, a complex lead character (bonus points for a complex female lead character), and a diverse, interesting supporting cast of characters.

Looking for a book that's well-written, populated with fascinating characters and has a plot that packs a punch? Look no further. A Discovery of Witches is a great read. This is a book that I would totally recommend for any of Twilight lovers. Seriously, all the Twilight elements are here! From a boring heroine, a dangerous/handsome/rich vampire, a forbidden love, and the slow pace.
The only thing I like from this book is the setting - Oxford was portrayed quite beautifully along the story. But I just can't stand Diana, the main protagonist, with her neverending love for Matthew the vampire, after knew him for only a week or so. That's the major turnoff for me.

It's a little romance-novelish in spots, but the history and the magic were mostly enough to overcome that. I'm looking forward to the next book in the trilogy, even so.
