The first book in this series is slow-- but it's a comforting kind of slow, the kind that says the writer was writing this to herself and wasn't afraid to sink in and stay awhile.
In the audio version, this quality is less easy to handle-- perhaps because I have already read in print, and was champing at the bit to get to the good stuff. The narrator here does a great job with the voices of all the characters.

A friend recommended this to me and when I picked it up from the library--whoa... It's so long I was intimidated!!!! But I started reading and ended up busting through it in a couple days.
It does have a bit of a YA feel to it, but I like that about this book. There's magic, mystery, and creatures and long standing rivalries. This book sets up a trilogy, I'm glad more are coming! A really fun read! Definitely looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

Thoroughly enjoyable although it ended without much resolution. Apparently it is part of a trilogy.
