I could NOT get through this. I listened to seven disks, about 20% of the whole, and no one has done any real magic beyond making a bunch of statues talk and we STILL haven't met Jonathan Strange.
One of my favorite writing teachers used to call stories like this ODTAA stories: One Damn Thing After The Other. Maybe eventually all of these random strands come together and the story moves fast enough to merit all those excited reviews from a few years ago. But I just don't care enough to get here. ...more
