This is a very strange surreal book where Salman Rushdie exorcises his Muslim roots.

not worth the hype. it's title deals with the verses where mohammed said female deities are just as good as Allah so he could try to win converts ina town. he tried to take it back and was so embarrassed that he left that town, worked up converts elsewhere and came back after 25 years to destroy the "wicked" town. another side story goes into a girl leading a pilgrimage to mecca. the whole reason to be told this story is because one of the characters tries to make a movie about it.
