Update 4-9-15:
I've been thinking a lot about Austin Kleon's 33 thoughts on reading, particular numbers 21 (If I hate a book, I will keep my mouth shut.) and 22 (I will make liberal use of the phrase, “It wasn’t for me.”). I am retaining my rating, but hiding my review. If you really want to see how much I hated it, read on. Otherwise, just know it wasn't for me.

The book wanted me to think of it as a mystery, but soon I was able to pick up that it was something different... suspense? thriller? ...I don't know. Wow; what an amazing book! It took me awhile to get going with this book, but once I was able to get into the storyline the other day, I was really hooked with the story. It not only has the literary aspect that I really like, it also has an exce ...more

I could not put it down, though I hated myself for it :) Not up to my usual preferred literary quality (book snob) but the plot/storyline was gripping. Kept me guessing so much that I guessed a whole additional layer that did not transpire, and that disappointed me :) Guess I am even more twisted than the author. I recommend this book.

i am somewhat conflicted about this book. on the one hand, it was a well-written piece of a type of genre fiction that i don't read often. on the other, i HATED both protagonists from about a third of the way in, and it was exasperating to spend time with them after a certain point. the ending was somewhat inevitable and just made me angry.
on the plus side, lots to talk about at book club! ...more
