I've been meaning to read this book for years and just have never gotten around to it until now. It's a fast, easy read and a very gripping one. Why would an intelligent young man choose to give up most of his worldly possessions, forsake his family and strike off on his own into the wilderness? Krakauer provides a plausible explanation by telling the story of Christopher McCandless, who was found starved to death in Alaska two years after graduating from college and basically pulling a Huck Fin

I thought the unfolding of the story was well done and kept the reader interested. The only part I wasn't a huge fan of was when Krakauer deviated from the story of Chris McCandless to tell about his own youth...it didn't really seem necessary.
