to me, this was the best one. I even gave it 3 stars, and that's saying something considering all my criticism of the first three. I liked that the dramas were different, things got all weird and super natural, and life for the vamps seemed relatively normal in the end. It made me sad, though, thinking of their family going on and on for all eternity, always stuck in the same place. Something about everlasting life on earth is pretty depressing to me. But anyway... Why are all of these books so LONG? And why does nothing ever, ever happen? I think that's my biggest beef with the series as a whole (not to mention the whole lack of skills thing). The "plot" of all 4 books could probably be condensed into 20 pages per story. And yes, I realize that if I were 15 I would be just as hopelessly in love with Edward as my students. Sadly, I've grown both old and jaded :-).

The books aren't terrible, and I'd definitely classify them as guilty pleasures, but really? ...more

I found the whole accelerated pregnancy thing to be ludicrous. I don't know why, but abnormal pregnancies in fiction just bug the shit out of me. Whether it's Bella's accelerated pregnancy with a half-vamp fetus, or a woman well beyond childbearing years getting pregnant as in the last Star Trek book I read, or any other form of weird pregnancy, Well, if the rumors about Meyer not publishing her 5th Twilight book are true, that's perfectly all right by me. But Meyer must have needed a deus ex machina to resolve the triangle with Bella, Edward and Jacob. Having him imprint on Nessie is a much better resolution than having them all face an eternity of angst and emo acting out. I wonder what Anne McCaffrey would think about imprinting? Clearly, she was a huge influence on Meyer for that aspect.

I would have liked to see even just one bonded pair that wasn't male-female. Even if it wasn't a sexual bond, why couldn't there be a pair of 2 females, or 2 males?

In some ways I was glad when Bella finally became a vamp. It allowed them to move beyond the teenage angst a little and into situations that were a little more grown up. In other ways, though, it's creepy. The idea of living for all eternity FOR another person just is weird. I would totally dig being a vampire, preferably an Anne Rice vampire, but living for another person who is essentially a supernatural stalker is NOT the message I would want my teenage kids to have.

I thoroughly enjoyed the introduction of other vampires in this book. I would have liked to get more story for each of them, particularly Garrett and the Irish coven. And there is a separate book, I'm sure, screaming to be written about Stefan and Vladimir and their vendetta against the Volturi.

All told, I think this book effectively ends the series. There are a few loose ends, but they aren't so drastic as to be annoying. In the case of Nessie and the Amazon half-vamp, I am not even sure if it's a loose end at all. This book pretty much put a neat little bow on the story. ...more

I can't recall ever being so relieved to be done with a book and a series of books. What a strange reaction! I read the first one, Twilight being forewarned that I'd be hooked and then grinding my teeth by the final book, and yes it was as exactly as I'd been told. A great (and addictive) story badly told. omg. the first half of this book is totally batshit, while the second half is incredibly boring. personally, i was kind of hoping that the crazy of the first 300 or so pages would run all the way through, but i guess no one can keep up that kind of momentum.

Dear Lord, I am glad that I am done with this series. This may have been my least favorite of the series, which Tim says is due to the fact that I didn’t read it right away, but I think because I was just done. Done before I had to pick up a 750 page book to finish the series. Major editing may have helped. Steph spiced it up a little bit with some sex (MARRIED sex though), but the end was pretty anti-climatic. I can’t believe I am going to say this, but a little gore might have helped. I thought this was a fitting end to the Twilight Saga. Between the first three books and what I knew about Stephenie Meyer, I was a little concerned that she had written herself into a couple of corners she wasn't going to be able to get out of without having more than one character act in a very out-of-character way. But she managed to resolve all these issues in a satisfying way, while still staying true to her characters, her story, and, I imagine, herself. ...more
