On their last day of college, friends Emma and Dexter fall for each other and sleep together. But afterwards, life gets in the way and they part, but what happens with their relationship? Each chapter revisits the same day, July 15, over the course of decades, outlining what happens to Emma and Dexter.
I didn’t like this for a few reasons. While I appreciate the format of the book, it didn’t work for me. A lot can happen in a year, and as it’s mentioned in some of the chapters, a lot goes on that ...more

One of the most real "romance" books I've ever read, although I wouldn't call it a romance it all. There are a lot of "oh-they-almost-got-together" moments, but ultimately it is a story about love - not romantic love necessarily, just love - and humanity. And perseverance. I would recommend this one.

This book was not at all as advertised which actually is a good thing. I was expecting a simple riff on romantic relationships, but the book ended up being so much more. While the conceit is great what really resonated with me was how much I identified with Emma - her choice of (mediocre) relationships, how she viewed the world around her and how she chose to live life. A refreshing look on how the choices you make are not always solely your own.

Update: it's been nine years since I read this book and I had completely forgotten about it. The end made me just as mad the second time. Two stars.
I gave this book five stars for effective use of unique plot device, narrative stucture, and three-dimensional characters. Then I took away two stars because of the author's stupid, massive letdown of an ending. I would really recommend this book. Just stop reading before you get to the final fifty pages. ...more

At times laugh out loud funny, but just as often heartbreaking; this love story of two people who just couldn't seem to get it right was brutally honest and real, and it made me cry. Highly recommended!
