I was frustrated when I realized I had borrowed an abridged version of this audiobook, but my sister seemed to think the book could have used some pruning anyway, and I didn't feel like anything was really missing. I suspect, though, that this works better read than listened to, only because the long, open interview format lent an awkward formality to the dialogue in parts of every interviewee's story. I tried to read this twice and didn't get past 10% of the Kindle version. I was just not drawn into the format of the story at all -- was looking more for a novel than a book-length set of anecdotes.

Riveting. It indulged my love of History Channel-esque eye witness accounts and kept me up at night with imaginings of foul, shambling killers.
Better than the movie. “Interviews” arranged in order of the outbreak and war.
