I super loved The Passage when I first read it (last year..?), and I wanted to re-read it in anticipation of starting The Twelve. My library had the audiobook, so I read it while cooking, etc. I had been listening to the Blade Runner audiobook and was startled that the primary voice actor was the same. I keep envisioning a Chicken Head instead of Wolgast. Once I got past that weirdness, I didn't mind the audio at all. This book covers a vast span of years with several time periods explored in gr

This is a review of the abridged audio version.
I was excited to find The Passage on CD. So excited that I listened to the whole thing before I realized this is an abridged version. Then I decided the abridged version is a good thing.
The Passage is my kind of horror story: a virus, super secret experiments, things going horribly awry. I love dystopias but had seen the word "vampire" attached to this book, so I was skeptical. To my relief, there are no magnetic, brooding men in capes. Some may ca ...more

I got through 12 discs and then couldn't take it anymore. What is the point of this book? Someone needed to edit this with a hacksaw; as far as I can tell at least 50% of this didn't need to be there to advance the plot OR build the characters.
Honestly, the worldbuilding in the future dystopia sections isn't all that great, either. And the vampires themselves? They're horror movie monsters, lacking the detail and/or novelty required to break away from every other monster script out there. I kep ...more

Good old apocalyptic fiction--a cross between The Stand and The Road.
The first half of the book is great. It goes downhill from there. Way too long.

a solid read. well over 700 pages, but it didn't feel that way. i enjoyed how the character development bloomed out; the characters that were important at the beginning gave way to new characters who gave way to new characters, but in a way that did not leave them in the dustbin of the book's history as you would think. glad i read it, and think you should too!

very disturbing, 1/3 of the way through the book and I cannot imagine that it would take another 400 pages, no less be part of a trilogy...and it was giving me strange nightmares. I dont enjoy reading books that give me nightmares. I loved "The Stand" by Stephen King, and saw this as a similar novel, but it became a lot less engaging after the first 150 pages.

I can't lie to myself any longer. This book started off with good characters and good pace. In the middle, I've lost interest and the story is unbearable. I've put off continuing hoping that it would get better if I set it aside for awhile, just to dread starting it again.

I was riveted but disappointed by the ending. I actually did like the writing. I guess if it's a series I can give it some slack for the extremely frustrating ending. It was just such a letdown, after such meticulous storytelling.

I got a little more than half way through and just couldn't do it. I loved the first part of the story, but I couldn't get into life in the compound. It just wasn't compelling enough to keep my interest.
