This is a review of the abridged audio version.

I was excited to find The Passage on CD. So excited that I listened to the whole thing before I realized this is an abridged version. Then I decided the abridged version is a good thing.

The Passage is my kind of horror story: a virus, super secret experiments, things going horribly awry. I love dystopias but had seen the word "vampire" attached to this book, so I was skeptical. To my relief, there are no magnetic, brooding men in capes. Some may ca

Fun summer thriller about a government experiment going horribly awry and creating vampire-like creatures. It's long but reads fairly quickly. The author starts out with one set of characters but then midway through the book shifts to 100 years in the future which I found a little disconcerting, having become attached to the original set of characters. Still, it's worth reading and is apparently book one of a proposed trilogy. ...more

I got through 12 discs and then couldn't take it anymore. What is the point of this book? Someone needed to edit this with a hacksaw; as far as I can tell at least 50% of this didn't need to be there to advance the plot OR build the characters.

Honestly, the worldbuilding in the future dystopia sections isn't all that great, either. And the vampires themselves? They're horror movie monsters, lacking the detail and/or novelty required to break away from every other monster script out there. I kep

I wanted to love this book. Several people I love and whose opinion I respect loved this book. And I really liked it, but I thought it needed an editor. And I couldn't help but notice the similarities between it and "Firefly/Serenity." Amy and the virals reminded me SO much of Summer and the Reavers. Because of this it didn't seem as original to me. I also don't like the plot device of getting to the point of major action, and them starting a new chapter that starts 8 days later and recaps wha

Not necessarily the most literary of reads, but I definite page-turner.

Pretty unimpressed after all the hype. Wish it were 350 pages shorter and little less overwritten. Also, it's not like this story has never been done before... ...more

very disturbing, 1/3 of the way through the book and I cannot imagine that it would take another 400 pages, no less be part of a trilogy...and it was giving me strange nightmares. I dont enjoy reading books that give me nightmares. I loved "The Stand" by Stephen King, and saw this as a similar novel, but it became a lot less engaging after the first 150 pages. ...more

I can't lie to myself any longer. This book started off with good characters and good pace. In the middle, I've lost interest and the story is unbearable. I've put off continuing hoping that it would get better if I set it aside for awhile, just to dread starting it again.

It had such great potential. Sorry, I quit.

Fantastic page-turner - great for holidays or long commutes. It's got the interesting post-apocalyptic world building of books like The Stand, but it's far better written. Can't wait for the next one. ...more

I got a little more than half way through and just couldn't do it. I loved the first part of the story, but I couldn't get into life in the compound. It just wasn't compelling enough to keep my interest. ...more
