This book, you guys. I don't really know what to say. Rarely has a book left me this torn as to how to rate and review it. On the one hand, I did find it compulsively readable and liked the main characters' story arcs -- particularly Laia. I liked how the pieces came together and the flow of the story. But. BUT. Insta-love, MULTIPLE love triangles, many things that seemed WAY too convenient, not quite enough back story on the world building and a doozy of a cliffhanger ending... All of these wer

A little too much of a Hunger Games + Harry Potter + the good parts of Divergent hybrid to win me over 100%...but I also couldn't put it down. Mostly predictable, but I still liked it. I can't believe I have to wait until August for the sequel.

This was a bit slow starting for me, but once it got rolling I enjoyed it. I liked having the different points of view, though I thought Laia was a bit naïve and younger than her age, especially considering the hard environment she had grown up in. Some of the emotional punches missed me because a lot of the classmate/friend characters blended together in my brain so I didn't have strong attachments to them.
