It took me a long time to get into the book because I was distracted by the various techniques of improving memory. Once I decided that merely reading through the book once was not going to make me a mental athlete, I gave myself over to the story and enjoyed sections of it. And the part I enjoyed most was on the creation of books (which cause us to dis-remember) and alphabets and writing and codexes.
