It isn't often that I give modern fiction five stars, but this "Booker of Bookers" winner is a gem. Rushdie combines the history of modern India with the life of his protagonist in a wonderful story of hope and despair. I rarely read "magical realism" and this is a terrific example of that genre. Who knows where I might go in my reading journey after this. Looking forward to the discussion at book group.
