The Tragedy Paper is one of the best young adult books I've read. It starts off with a boy named Duncan who goes to find his new dorm room at Irving, a private school. Laban's writing felt plain at first, but her tightly-plotted story (a mash-up of Looking For Alaska and 13 Reasons Why) pulled me in quickly. It's got a tone that's a bit pandering, but honestly, so do most of the intelligent young men I know, so chalk up that to successful inhabitation of the character's voice. Interesting, realistic plot.

This was ok. If definitely kept me reading, but I thought it was lazy. I mostly kept reading because I knew some big giant thing was going to happen, and the main character kept saying, "OMG! It's so suspenseful! Something's going to happen!"
