Stevens takes a mini-break from his duties as head butler from a large English house and motors to meet the one time house keeper. Ishiguro is an amazing writer. This is the second book I've read of his and while the stories themselves are very different there are elements that are similar. He has a subtlety to his writing that is beautiful and often his stories are gorgeously heartbreaking. I found myself surprisingly tearing up at the end of the novel which I had not been expecting. Haunting Even as nothing much happens from a plot perspective, Mr. Stevens’s inner journey is riveting, tense and heartbreaking.
