I picked this one up after reading Klara and the Sun, which I rather enjoyed. This one proved to be something of a disappointment relatively speaking. I enjoy the spare writing style but found the narrator lacking in depth. I thought there should have been more of an undercurrent of humanity in Stevens, hinting at an untapped vein of feeling beneath the facade of the perfect servant. Still, a decent read all in all.
Ishiguro is an amazing writer. This is the second book I've read of his and while the stories themselves are very different there are elements that are similar. He has a subtlety to his writing that is beautiful and often his stories are gorgeously heartbreaking. I found myself surprisingly tearing up at the end of the novel which I had not been expecting.
