What Members Thought

This book is so well done! I've been working through my backlog of debut novels and this one is great. It's heavy with family dysfunction, which isn't something I usually enjoy, but I think it really makes it a compelling story. Chapters alternate from different characters' perspectives across many years, but it still feels very fluid.

More like 3.5. I really enjoyed this book and thought Flournoy did a fantastic job describing complicated emotions and family dynamics. I think there were some loose ends left dangling while others were tied in neat little bows, and sometimes character exposition was a little too unnatural. I consider these errors as kind of "debut novel mistakes", and I look forward to reading more books by this author to see how her writing develops over time.
