I want to go back.
A great premise that suffered somewhat from a bit of over-writing and an unsatisfying end. I want to go to the circus, certainly, but the relationships between the people weren't developed or explained enough for me. I could picture the place and not the characters, which maybe was partially the point, but it didn't do it for me. Don't get me wrong, still a solid 3-3.5 star read, but not making its way into my Top 10.

That, was a good story.
I did get a little tired of the ambiance being a character, and felt like the plot could have used some more attention. But it was still a beautiful book.
I enjoyed this book and its lush setting very much while I was reading it. In the light of day, I have more questions and criticisms of it, and am having a hard time mustering the enthusiasm for it that I felt yesterday. I found it to be a ridiculously difficult plot to describe, and the time/place jumps in each chapter made for some confusing moments while reading. Magical, atmospheric and leaves you a little book-drunk at the end because that is how powerful a hold this world has on you.
