“They want to believe that magic is nothing but clever deception, because to think it real would keep them up at night, afraid of their own existence.”

This is one of those books I was ambivalent about before I started it. I had seen both good and bad reviews of it, so I had placed it in the “eh, maybe I’ll get to it someday” section of my TBR list. A great premise that suffered somewhat from a bit of over-writing and an unsatisfying end. My advice is to not read too much about this book before you begin. I really enjoyed this book and I think a large part is due to having it all slowly revealed. Also, pay close attention to the dates at the start of each chapter.

3 1/2 star really, if we could do halves. For some reason this book took my a long time to finish. I enjoyed the concept and descriptions of the circus itself, it's just the overall plot and characters that didn't pull me through the book that strongly. ...more

I don't think i would have finished this book, aside from the fact that I listened to Jim Dale read the audio version.

Everything seemed very pointless and confusing. Time hopping and third to second person narration hopping. Not knowing why anything was the way it was and no one questioning it.

Love Love love...the reader is fantastic and I got caught up in the story pretty quickly. It does seem oddly familiar and there were parts that were slow but I really enjoyed the mystery and I wished the Circus was real. I would be a Rever...

delightful and mysterious. This book created a beautiful, magical circus and tells a story too. Read in the autumn.
