This was so magical. I loved how it shifted from one time to another and from place to place and perspective to perspective. It added a touch of confusion that felt purposeful. I was really enjoying this as an audiobook, until Scribd started skipping chapters (boo hiss!). It's was fantastic though!

A fantasy novel of the magic-in-the-real-world variety rather than swords-and-dragons, this is a book that made me stay up reading into the wee hours. Marco and Celia are opponents in a game forced upon them by their mentors. It's a decades-long test of magical skill, and the venue is The Night Circus. And of course Marco and Celia are star-crossed lovers.

Second review: Still so good. there are certain poignant moments that made me tear up. Still one of my favorites. And Widget and Poppet are two of the loveliest characters ever written.

I'm glad I didn't see the negative reviews of this until I was already reading it. I'm a sucker for atmosphere, and this story is chock full of it. Some complained of poor character development, and a predictable story. I felt like the circus was the main character, and it didn't disappoint! I mean, just imagine the possibilities in a circus where people can ACTUALLY DO MAGIC!?!? This story had an air of mystery about it, but the characters were not completely wrapped in fantasy. To me, it was r

This was ALMOST a 5-star book! I give it 4 and 3/4 stars. The circus setting that the author imagined and described was a work of art; the imagery was beautiful. The only thing holding me back from giving this a full-on 5 star rating is the crazy time-jumping that goes on throughout the whole book... thank goodness there was a date at the beginning of each chapter.

It felt like a lot of setup. I kept waiting for it to get started. I wanted to like it because it was so different and quirky, but I couldn't get close enough to the characters to really fall in love.
